This evening we caught Heidi, once again, with one of Alex's shoes in her mouth. Heidi typically prefers the flavor of Archie's shoes, but she willingly eats any shoe she can get her little hands on.
I took the shoe from her and tossed it across the room followed shortly by its pair. At which Alex screamed in frustration, "those are MY shoes, you DO NOT throw them."
I tried to explain, "I don't want Heidi to put them in her mouth, she could get sick. Your shoes have poop on them, if you eat poop you will get dysentery."
" I do not see any poop" was Alex's calm and confused response.
"It's microscopic" I replied.
Not 2 minutes later Tyler discovered Alex, on the couch, licking the bottom of her shoe.
"Alex, you do NOT lick shoes, you might get sick and die!!!" He lectured while carrying her to time out.
"I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!!" were the pitiful and frantic cries I heard from the next room, repeated over and over again.
Once released from time out Alex explained to Heidi that she was moving the scriptures out of her reach because she was afraid Heidi might eat them, and die.
Apparently sarcasm does not translate well to toddlers.
